Tiger Express Returns as a Luxury Journey Dedicated to Tiger Conservation
Tiger Express, a rail and luxury hospitality experience created to support wildlife conservation, will officially return in 2026 with a seven day six night itinerary. The journey is a collaboration between Save Wild Tigers, The Eastern and Oriental Express, A Belmond Train and Raffles Singapore. It will launch its first edition from 10 to 16 May 2025, offering an adventure from Singapore to Malaysia that aims to raise awareness and funds for the protection of the Malayan tiger.
A Journey that Combines Conservation and Luxury Travel
The experience begins with a night at the historic Raffles Singapore and a screening of the film Dead Talk, featuring British actor Ray Winstone. Guests will stay in one of the hotel’s suites before departing from Woodlands station to board The Eastern and Oriental Express, A Belmond Train. The route includes stops at well known destinations in Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang.
The second day unfolds entirely on board the Belmond train, which showcases design inspired by Southeast Asian culture. Cherry wood panels, vibrant Thai silk and Malaysian lace motifs bring a distinct identity to the interiors. Guests can admire views of the Malaysian rainforest while enjoying afternoon tea, followed by an exclusive dinner curated by acclaimed chef André Chiang. On the third day, the train arrives at Merapoh station, where guests visit Taman Negara National Park. Formed one hundred and thirty million years ago, it is considered one of the oldest rainforests in the world.
Cultural Exploration and Immersive Experiences
On the fourth day, the journey continues to Penang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its historic buildings, cultural richness and diverse architectural styles. Guests will also join a workshop that explores the traditional Malaysian batik process, learning how artisans create and apply intricate designs onto fabric. The tour includes a viewing of selected images from the Eye on the Tiger exhibition originally showcased at Royal Albert Hall in London, along with the opportunity to meet the curator.
The itinerary then moves to Langkawi, where guests will spend two nights at The Datai. Set within a ten million year old rainforest, the resort is known as a sanctuary for wellbeing and is home to one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Guests can explore the wildlife that inhabits the rainforest, including dusky leaf monkeys, Tokay geckos and great hornbills. The stay includes nature walks to a private pathway leading to a white sand beach, traditional Malay spa treatments and sunset cocktails overlooking the Andaman Sea.
Tiger Express delivers a blend of luxury travel, cultural immersion and meaningful conservation efforts, offering an experience that engages travellers while contributing to the future of the Malayan tiger.
