International Visitors Explore the Cultural Diversity of Vietnam’s Ethnic Communities

A delegation of ambassadors, chargés d’affaires and representatives of international organisations visited the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi, where they experienced the cultural richness of Vietnam’s ethnic groups. The programme was part of the National Great Unity Week and the second Muong Ethnic Cultural Festival 2025.

A Deep Cultural Journey
The delegation was welcomed with traditional Muong ceremonial hospitality. They explored the unique architectural style of the Muong stilt houses, learned about the legendary epic of “Đẻ đất đẻ nước”, and enjoyed performances presented by Muong artisans. Visitors observed traditional weaving and bamboo crafting, tasted signature dishes, and joined community activities including folk dances and cultural games.

Discovering Distinct Ethnic Traditions
The programme continued with a visit to the Xo Dang cultural space, where international guests discovered traditional housing styles and listened to performances featuring bamboo instruments such as the T’rưng and the Klongput.
At the Khmer pagoda, guests were greeted by Chhay-dăm drums before touring the main hall and learning about Khmer Theravada Buddhist architecture and rituals.

Regional Cultural Showcases
Visitors explored the Vinh Long cultural space, where they observed performances of Sắc bùa Phú Lễ, Lục Vân Tiên singing and Đờn ca Tài tử. They experienced local craftsmanship such as pandan leaf weaving and water hyacinth braiding, and sampled regional specialties including Mỹ Lồng rice paper and Sơn Đốc puffed cakes.

At the Cham tower complex, the delegation attended “Hoa đất tháp”, a performance featuring traditional Cham music and dance with instruments such as the Paranưng drum, Ginăng drum and Saranai. Guests also learned about the UNESCO-recognised Bàu Trúc pottery tradition and tried shaping clay under the guidance of local artisans.

Cultural Celebration at National Scale
In the evening, the delegation joined the opening ceremony of National Great Unity Week and the second Muong Ethnic Cultural Festival at the Central Highlands Square. The full-day programme offered international representatives an in-depth perspective on the cultural diversity and heritage values of Vietnam’s ethnic communities.

Promoting Vietnam’s Cultural Strength
Through this extensive showcase, international guests gained a stronger understanding of Vietnam’s cultural richness. The event also supported broader promotion efforts aimed at tourism businesses and global travelers, highlighting Vietnam’s potential in cultural tourism, heritage preservation and ethnic diversity.
