Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism Presents a Series of New Year 2026 Cultural Experiences
In December 2025, the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi launches a month-long series of cultural activities under the theme Welcome New Year 2026. The program highlights early spring traditions, rituals, and performances of Vietnam’s diverse ethnic communities, offering visitors a deeper understanding of their heritage.
Early Spring Cultural Experiences
The activities present cultural practices through rituals, festivals and traditional customs. These experiences aim to preserve and promote ethnic cultural values while strengthening connection, solidarity and cooperation among communities at the start of the new year.
Mountain Market and Daily Cultural Spaces
The month features cultural showcases such as a highland market space and New Year-themed activities. These programs introduce regional traditions, support cultural exchange and contribute to building distinctive tourism products at the Village.
Cultural Promotion from Local Regions
Localities participate by presenting their cultural identity and tourism products to encourage regional tourism links. All activities are curated and performed directly by ethnic community members to ensure authenticity.
Ethnic Participation
The event expects more than 100 members from 16 ethnic groups from 11 provinces, including the Nùng, Tày, Dao, Mông, Mường, Lào, Thái, Khơ Mú, Tà Ôi, Ba Na, Xơ Đăng, Gia Rai, Cơ Tu, Raglai, Ê Đê and Khmer. Additional groups from Đà Nẵng and Sơn La are invited to enhance the program.
Cultural Highlights
A key highlight of December is the showcase of Cơ Tu cultural heritage from Đà Nẵng. The Village will stage the Prơ ngooch brotherhood ceremony on 7 December. The same day hosts the cultural exchange program Echo of the Mountains, featuring folk singing, traditional instruments and the Tân tung da dá dance.
Visitors can also meet Xơ Đăng, Cơ Tu, Tà Ôi, Ba Na and Gia Rai communities through cultural performances and everyday activities at the Village.
Culinary and Craft Experiences
On 6–7 December, the Village introduces Cơ Tu cuisine and traditional culinary practices. Visitors can join hands-on activities such as preparing bamboo-tube rice, grilling meat and making traditional cakes.
Throughout December, programs like Wild Sunflower Melodies (13–14 and 20–21 December) bring together ethnic groups from the Central Highlands. On 1 January 2026, the Village will reenact a traditional wedding ceremony of a Central Highlands community, including rituals, gifts and processions.
Year-End Celebration
On 28 December, each ethnic village will present its signature dishes in a year-end family meal showcase. Sixteen traditional dishes will be prepared to express cultural identity and New Year wishes for prosperity.
Early New Year Rituals
At the beginning of 2026, the Village reenacts the Khơ Mú praying-for-harvest ceremony on 3 January. Visitors can observe the making and decoration of five-colored sticky rice, a specialty of northern ethnic groups.
Highland Market for New Year 2026
From 1 to 4 January 2026, the Village recreates a highland market atmosphere featuring folk games, traditional food, handmade crafts and local specialties. Ethnic artisans will present weaving, embroidery, bamboo crafting and textile traditions.
Interactive Cultural Experiences
Visitors can join cultural activities such as Then singing and Tính lute performances of the Tày and Nùng, Mông khen dancing, Mường gong performances, Thái xoe dance, Khmer Robam and Romvong dances, and various folk games and traditional music showcases.
The Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism continues to build its identity as a leading cultural tourism destination. By empowering ethnic communities as cultural ambassadors, the Village offers travelers an engaging and authentic exploration of Vietnam’s diverse heritage.
