Yen Bai Tourism: Strategy is becoming reality
Based on selective inheritance from the Prime Minister's Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030, Yen Bai has developed a plan and strategic orientation for tourism development in the province in accordance with the local strengths, gradually turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector, developing green and sustainable tourism.
Implementing Resolution No. 28-NQ/TU dated February 24, 2021 of the 19th Provincial Party Committee on tourism development for the period 2021 - 2025, Yen Bai province has developed Action Program No. 05; in which, it has clearly identified the goals, roadmap, 10 tasks, solutions, with specific assignments for implementing units. The planning of Yen Bai province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, also sets out plans for environmental protection, nature conservation and biodiversity; exploitation, use and protection of resources; prevention and control of natural disasters and response to climate change... At the same time, it proposes solutions for mobilizing investment capital; developing human resources; protecting the environment; developing science, technology and innovation; mechanisms and policies for development linkage; management, control of urban and rural development... All are aimed at the goal of developing green, unique, attractive tourism in Yen Bai province and becoming an important economic sector of the province; building high-quality, diverse, branded tourism products and being one of the leading tourist destinations in the Northwest region, creating a unique image and destination "Yen Bai - Where the colors of the Northwest converge" with the brand of "a safe, friendly, unique, attractive, impressive destination".
The province also strives to welcome over 1,500,000 visitors by 2025; of which, 400,000 international visitors, an average growth of 14.6%/year; tourism revenue in 2025 will reach about 1,500 billion VND, an average growth of 26%/year, accounting for about 7% of the total production value of the service sector; There are 5,000 rooms or more in accommodation establishments; of which, 20% meet 3-star standards or higher...
Looking back over the past 4 years, it can be seen that Yen Bai's tourism development strategy is gradually becoming a reality. Tourism is becoming a key economic sector of the locality; in particular, it is also expected to be a solution to poverty alleviation for the people of the Yen Bai highlands. Mu Cang Chai is a typical example. The Resolution of the 19th Mu Cang Chai District Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, set the goal of "building Mu Cang Chai into a tourist district - a destination of "Identity, Safety, Friendliness" along with the goal of "striving to basically no longer be a poor district by 2025, and no longer be a poor district by 2030".
Following the general strategy of the province, the district issued a project to build a tourist district, identifying 5 breakthroughs and 16 specific targets. Since then, the district has actively promoted and raised awareness among people about tourism development, paid attention to investing in infrastructure, created favorable conditions to attract investors, increased introduction and promotion...
In addition, the district also implemented support for households providing homestay services with interest-free loans at the district Social Policy Bank to build community guesthouses; supported vocational training in services and tourism; At the same time, there is a mechanism to support people to restore and develop some traditional occupations and some valuable historical products of the Mong people.
After 2 years, the proportion of the service sector in the district reached 36%; the number of rooms and suites at accommodation establishments increased to 665 rooms; 10/16 targets of the project were basically completed and exceeded. Mu Cang Chai tourism is on the right track, with depth, the number of tourists is increasing and spending more.
Ms. Hoang Hoa - a tourist from Hanoi shared about her trip back to Mu Cang Chai after 6 years: "It is still terraced fields, stilt houses, rustic dishes, but after many years of returning, Mu Cang Chai has renewed itself with many products and tourist destinations. Accommodation facilities are still imbued with cultural colors but are more convenient, professional, and have better quality services. Roads are also much easier to travel, and a team of very enthusiastic and thoughtful local tour guides has been formed". The strong transformation of tourism has contributed to reducing the multidimensional poverty rate of the district in 2024 by 25.1% compared to 2022.
Not only Mu Cang Chai, localities across the province, based on the planning of the province's 4 key tourist areas, have all built their own strategies to develop local tourism, contributing to the strong growth of Yen Bai tourism. In 2020, tourists to Yen Bai is 760,000 arrivals, tourism revenue reaches 475 billion VND, by 2024, these figures will be 2.1 million arrivals and 1,790 billion VND respectively.
Accompanying the localities, the province has also developed a plan to develop tourism products in the area until 2025 with the goal of forming tourism products on the basis of effectively exploiting natural and human resources in the area. These products are unique, different and competitive compared to tourism products in other localities.
Based on natural potential and existing tourism service system, Yen Bai has developed main types of tourism: resort tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, festivals and some combined tourism types such as community tourism, agricultural tourism. Resolution No. 10/2021/NQ-HDND dated April 19, 2021 of the Provincial People's Council was also issued very early, providing many practical supports, encouraging people to develop and improve the quality of tourism. Ms. Vu Thi Mai Oanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province said: "The province has issued 11 comprehensive and synchronous support policies to develop tourism, from tourism infrastructure, human resource training to investment promotion and advertising; especially supporting the exploitation of the strengths of natural landscapes combined with the culture of indigenous people to form unique tourism products. Every year, the province supports localities to maintain the organization of over 40 traditional festivals, from the value of festivals and cultural events to build typical tourism products, creating impressions and highlights for Yen Bai tourism to develop sustainably".
In addition, Yen Bai also focuses on investing thousands of billions of VND to implement projects to build regional and inter-regional connecting routes, revolving around the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, improving transportation capacity, reducing costs and travel time between areas in the province, localities in the Western region North with Hanoi Capital and the Northern Delta provinces, creating a premise to attract businesses and investors to develop tourism. Tourism promotion and development has been innovated in many forms. Currently, 100% of the province's unique and key tourism products have been introduced on domestic and international e-commerce sites...
With less than 1 year left for Yen Bai tourism to complete its set goals, in the coming time, in addition to implementing existing support policies, the province will continue to do a good job in planning and attracting investment; expanding and diversifying tourism products and types. At the same time, preserving, conserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, protecting natural landscapes, focusing more on training, fostering and improving the quality of human resources...
